The Colorado Avalanche and Minnesota Wild played a chaotic Game 1 of their second-round series on Sunday night. The 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs are officially on to round two after the Montreal Canadiens advanced earlier on Sunday. Nathan MacKinnon and the Avalanche rang in the official beginning of the second round with an offensive onslaught on home ice.

Defenseman Devon Toews scored a goal as part of a four-point night. MacKinnon, Martin Necas, and Cale Makar each provided three points. The Avalanche scored nine goals in an insane 9-6 victory over the Wild on Sunday night.
It was an unusually high-scoring game for the Stanley Cup Playoffs. In a tournament that features a lot of intensity and defense, the Wild and Avalanche lit up the scoresheet. This is the 10th game in Stanley Cup Playoff history that featured 15+ goals, according to the TNT broadcast.
