The Colorado Avalanche had a solid season , making it all the way to the Western Conference Finals, but eventually flamed out against the Vegas Golden Knights. They'll be looking to get over the hump next season, and they've made some moves already, signing Brent Burns and Brett Kublak to extensions.

"Colorado brings back two defensemen who could have walked on July 1: Brett Kulak on a five-year deal, and Brent Burns on a one-year deal," Chris Johnston of The Athletic wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
"Brent Burns, one year, base salary is $850k but can earn just over $2M more in performance bonuses," NHL insider Pierre LeBrun wrote on X .
With the Avalanche in a cap crunch heading into the offseason, it was imperative that they give extensions to players such as Burns and Kublak. There could be some more moves happening along the roster, as well as possible trades. One player who has been named in those rumors is veteran forward Valeri Nichushkin.
Nichushkin carries a $6.125 million cap hit through the 2029-30 season and has one of the largest contracts on the team. He also has a limited no-trade clause, which means the Avalanche will have options to choose from if they wish to trade him.

Nichushkin has dealt with injuries throughout his career, but when he's available, he's one of the better players at his position.
The Avalanche seem far from done with how they want to shape the roster moving forward, and they will have some decisions to make as the offseason continues.
