Entering his second season with third-year quarterback Caleb Williams , Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson recently made an eye-opening admission about his development in the Windy City. After an impressive 11-6 NFC North title campaign, Johnson remarked on the final day of minicamp that his growth as a play-caller is rooted in adapting to the talent he has, rather than sticking to outdated strategies.

This flexible coaching approach has led to significant progress in the quarterback's development. According to a report by NBC Sports, Caleb Williams shared that his comfort level within the system has drastically changed over the past year. He recalled a candid conversation with running backs coach Eric Studesville, where he humorously described his initial struggles with Johnson's complex playbook as "drowning" while trying to gasp for air.
Now, thanks to continuity within the structure, Williams notes that mastering the terminology and aligning on key concepts has made the learning process much more enjoyable. This mental clarity allows the offense to incorporate more nuanced concepts earlier, supporting Johnson's observations that his quarterbacks appear significantly more at ease.
Operating with increased confidence and improved ball placement, Williams has set a formidable standard for the rest of the league, helping the Bears become the highest-scoring offense in the NFL.
This complete immersion in football mechanics helps shield the roster from off-field distractions, particularly the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the team's stadium situation. As the organization prepares to relocate from Soldier Field to a new facility in Hammond, Indiana, Williams remains unfazed by the noise surrounding this change . He emphasized that his main concern is playing on a regulation field marked with white lines, focusing on building upon a standout sophomore campaign during which he recorded 3,942 passing yards and 27 touchdowns.
