On Thursday, the Chicago Bears and Cincinnati Bengals had a joint practice. Overall, the Bears didn't fare too well .

Caleb Williams threw 3 interceptions and was sacked twice at the end. Bengals defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence gave Williams a hard time .
Conversely, the Bears had one bright spot in cornerback Jaylon Johnson in his battle with Bengals wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase. Overall, Johnson gave Chase a run for his money , per Patrick Finley of The Chicago Sun-Times, so much so that he was "fuming" about it.

After practice, Chase praised Johnson's abilities.
''Real good corner,'' Chase said. ''Pretty aggressive on a couple of plays.''

Then, he said it wasn't overly aggressive.
''I get jumped every day,'' Chase said. ''I get jumped for a living. I've gotten many yards [after] getting jumped at the line. That's not aggressive.''
Last season, Johnson played in 7 games. Furthermore, Johnson battled a series of groin injuries . He finished with 17 total tackles (15 solo), two passes defended, and one interception. In the postseason, Johnson finished with 6 tackles (5 solo) and defended two passes.
Lately, Johnson has been making an impression during training camp.
''I've seen improvement out of Jaylon,'' defensive coordinator Dennis Allen said Wednesday. ''I've seen some flashes that say, 'Man, he's looking a little bit more like what you expected him to look [like].' ''

Chase finished the season with 125 receptions for 1,412 receiving yards and 8 touchdowns. In 2024, Chase won the "Triple Crown". Altogether, he led the NFL in receptions (127), receiving yards (1,708), and receiving touchdowns (17).
The Bears and Bengals square off in a preseason game on Saturday at 6:00 pm CST/7:00 pm EST.
