The Chicago Bears will be without offensive tackle Braxton Jones for the rest of the season. Jones will not be returning to the team off injured reserve after undergoing knee surgery on Tuesday, according to Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune.
Jones initially suffered the injury back in training camp, which caused him to miss about a week's worth of practices. Biggs reports the injury was a partially torn patellar tendon, and Jones decided to delay surgery until after the season. Unfortunately, he reinjured the knee in Week 3 against the Philadelphia Eagles and opted for the surgery.
A 2022 fifth-round pick out of Southern Utah, Jones spent his first four seasons with the Bears as the starting left tackle. The Bears re-signed him to a one-year deal in March to compete for the starting left tackle job in part due to an injury to Ozzy Trapilo. Jones eventually retook the job and started the first three games of the year, allowing just two pressures and no sacks.
Injuries have plagued Jones in recent years, as this will be his third season in a row that ends prematurely. With him no longer an option on the offensive line, the Bears will look to Trapilo and Theo Benedet as the top options going forward.
