- Ben Johnson believes Bears RB Roschon Johnson is breaking through
With injuries to different areas across the roster, the Chicago Bears have had plenty of opportunities for other players to make their mark as they compete for a spot on the 53-man roster.
One of the players who has taken the most advantage of his role in the preseason is veteran running back Roschon Johnson, who has been thrust into the lineup with Kyle Monangai out due to injury and D'Andre Swift resting. In the first two preseason games this year, Johnson has carried the ball 12 times for 42 yards, an average of 3.5 yards per carry, and added to his value with his special teams play.

Following the team's loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on Saturday, head coach Ben Johnson discussed Johnson's battle for the RB3 spot on the depth chart and how he believes the veteran has made his mark.

"He flashed the other day, in particular on special teams," Johnson said. "And we keep talking about the importance of being the number 3 running back or depth in the running back room and being able to bring that to the table. He had a couple really nice plays in practice, can't wait to see what it looked like on game tape, because we talked about wanting to see players stack good performances back-to-back, and he's a candidate that may have done that tonight."
Johnson has been on the roster since joining the Bears as a fourth-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, but he's been unable to crack legitimate playing time since his rookie season when he rushed for 352 yards. His most production came in the 2024 season when he scored six rushing touchdowns as a backup to Swift, but saw his role decrease with the emergency of Monangai last season.
