Bengals contract news triggers after Week 1 of NFL free agency

In minor housekeeping news around NFL free agency, the Cincinnati Bengals had some contracts trigger guarantees and bonuses this week.

After the Bengals gained some unexpected cap space after NFL adjustments, Spotrac shared the following updates about Bengals contract triggers:

• Ja’Marr Chase’s $28.9 million 2027 salary is now guaranteed

• An $18.3 million chunk of Joe Burrow ’s 2027 salary is now guaranteed

• Tee Higgins ’ $10.9 million salary is now fully guaranteed

• Tee Higgins earned a $10 million roster bonus

• BJ Hill earned a $2 million roster bonus

• Mike Gesicki earned a $2 million roster bonus

• Samaje Perine earned a $200,000 roster bonus

Nothing shocking here. BJ Hill did seem like a possible cut candidate and this mid-March roster bonus was the quiet deadline for such a move. Bengals brass shot down that idea earlier, though.

As things stand now, the Bengals have roughly $31.8 million in free cap space, according to Spotrac.
