Bengals' Jonathan Allen contract details are worth a look
The Cincinnati Bengals have been a little under fire this week for how they have navigated their free-agency deals and overall salary cap situation.
But the same criticisms don’t necessarily apply to how the Bengals addressed the Jonathan Allen contract when bringing on the veteran defensive lineman in free agency.
According to Over the Cap , the reported two-year deal worth $25 million carries just $7.5 million in guarantees.
In fact, given the structure, it’s effectively a one-year deal worth $13.5 million with an option for a second.
The cap hits break down like so:
-
2026: $9.75 million
-
2027: $15.25 million
It’s a nice deal for both parties, with Allen looking to prove himself on a contender. If the Bengals don’t like what unfolds after one season, they would save $11.5 million with a post-June 1 cut next offseason.
None involved want it to get to that point, of course. All involved think it’s a scheme fit, with Allen more than capable of boosting the entire defense with his interior pass-rush and versatility.
