Considering the high levels of talent the Oregon Ducks ' defensive line had standing on the sideline in 2025, it shouldn't a surprise to see now-departed Ducks competing for starting roles elsewhere.
Defensive end Blake Purchase is among those. He entered the transfer portal in January and committed to the Ole Miss Rebels. After competing in spring practices and fall camp, which has been a particularly impressive time for Purchase, the former Duck "has the potential to earn a starting role heading into the 2026 season," according to Ole Miss Rebels OnSI's Tanner Shapiro .
Similar to Oregon, Ole Miss has an extremely talented defensive line room consisting of blue-chippers Kam Franklin , Will Echoles and Suntarine Perkins . But the starting lineup isn't nearly as set in stone as it is for the Ducks, who had all four defensive line starters returning in 2026. As a result, Purchase could claim a starting spot on the edge of Ole Miss coach Pete Golding's defense.
In limited time as a redshirt sophomore with the Ducks in 2025, Purchase put together a strong campaign: 32 tackles, two sacks and an interception. In his three-year career, all in Eugene, the 6-foot-3, 250-pounder has 39 total tackles, seven tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks. Though he may not have starting-level experience, he has starter-level talent.
As for the biggest improvement he has made from spring to fall camp, Purchase spoke about the mental side of the position.
"I feel like I really immerse myself in the playbook," he said. "It's like being able to have spring under my belt and really feel comfortable on what I'm doing every play."
Just like the Ducks' front four, the Rebels have a chance to be not just a dominant defense line by SEC standards, but also on a national level — with Purchase as a significant contributor.
