The Toronto Blue Jays made a notable roster move Saturday before taking on the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards, selecting right-hander Hayden Juenger from Triple-A Buffalo and designating pitcher Austin Voth for assignment after Friday's 6-5 win.
The move gives the Blue Jays a fresh right-handed arm as its pitching staff continues to deal with injuries and uneven relief work. Juenger, a 25-year-old prospect, joins both the active roster and the 40-man roster as the club searches for more stability in the bullpen.
Toronto made the adjustment after Voth struggled in bulk relief during Friday night's series opener, allowing five earned runs and three home runs over 3.1 innings while forcing the bullpen to navigate another tense finish.
The Blue Jays announced the transaction on the organization's official X, formerly Twitter, account before Saturday's game in Baltimore, confirming Juenger's promotion and Voth's designation as the corresponding move.
"ROSTER MOVES:
🔹 RHP Hayden Juenger selected to the Major League roster and will be active today
🔹 RHP Austin Voth designated for assignment
Welcome to The Show, Hayden!"
Juenger earned the call with a strong start at Buffalo. He posted a 3.15 ERA, a 2.40 FIP, and a 26.1 percent strikeout rate while not allowing a home run across 20 innings this season.
That last number is particularly significant for Toronto. The club has watched its pitching depth tighten with Jose Berrios on the 60-day injured list, Shane Bieber still working through rehab, and Dylan Cease recently landing on the 15-day injured list.
Voth's designation also signals that Toronto is prioritizing immediate performance over veteran status in a tight AL East race. He had already been designated for assignment once this season, making the latest move feel more difficult to reverse for a staff seeking dependable innings.
The Blue Jays head into Saturday back at .500 after grinding out Friday's win, a result that kept them in third place and added meaning to the series. By turning to Juenger before facing another dangerous Baltimore lineup, Toronto chose upside, power stuff, and better matchup flexibility at an important point in the series.
