Blue Jays' John Schneider Announces Trey Yesavage Update Before Dodgers Game

The Toronto Blue Jays have lost four straight games entering their series on Monday against the Los Angeles Dodgers and are in desperate need of reinforcements. One player whose return cannot come soon enough is right-hander Trey Yesavage .

Yesavage broke out during the 2025 season, rising through four levels in Toronto’s system before making his MLB debut in September. He posted a 3.21 ERA along with 16 strikeouts through his first three starts before helping lead the Blue Jays to an American League pennant in October.

However, Yesavage had an increased workload last year, throwing 98 innings, which is not a massive total but still the most he has ever thrown in his professional career dating back to college.

As a result, the 22-year-old entered spring training this year with a right shoulder impingement, and after not seeing much progress in camp, he began the year on the 15-day injured list.

Since then, Yesavage has made progress in his recovery, and his rehab assignment officially began last Friday. On Monday, during pregame, manager John Schneider had another encouraging update on Yesavage’s status.

Schneider announced that the team was pleased with his first rehab outing and that he will make another Single-A rehab start on Thursday with the goal of progressing to four innings and 60 to 65 pitches (h/t Thomas Hall of Blue Jays Nation).

Schneider also added that Yesavage is “really trending in the right direction,” according to Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet .

This is very good news for the Blue Jays, who are hoping to get Yesavage back by the end of April. There is a clear spot for him in the starting rotation following Cody Ponce ’s devastating ACL injury to begin the season, and Yesavage would immediately raise the floor of Toronto’s staff.

He has exceeded expectations during his time with the organization, and he has been with the club for less than two years after being selected in the first round of the 2024 MLB Draft.

If his recovery continues at this pace, Yesavage could become one of the most important additions the Blue Jays make all month.
