Simeon Woods Richardson will remain with the Toronto Blue Jays organization after clearing waivers, giving the club another pitching option as it enters a critical series against the Cleveland Guardians .
The right-hander was designated for assignment last Friday to make room for rookie right-hander CJ Van Eyk. After going unclaimed, Woods Richardson was outrighted to Triple-A Buffalo, according to Blue Jays beat writer Thomas Hall.
The move keeps Woods Richardson in Toronto's system despite a difficult overall season. He has gone 2-7 with a 6.68 ERA, 1.76 WHIP and 40 strikeouts across 66 innings in 2026.
Woods Richardson has had a different experience since moving into Toronto's bullpen. Across eight relief appearances, he has posted a 2-0 record and 3.93 ERA over 18.1 innings.
His final outing before the DFA came against the Kansas City Royals on Aug. 27. He allowed six earned runs on five hits and two walks in one inning, creating an opening for Van Eyk.

Van Eyk has made four relief appearances for Toronto this season, going 0-1 with a 4.05 ERA and 1.95 WHIP across 6.2 innings. He also tossed a scoreless inning against the Seattle Mariners on Aug. 28.
The Blue Jays enter their series with Cleveland at 68-70, putting them 14.5 games behind the Tampa Bay Rays in the AL East. However, they remain within 1.5 games of the Guardians for the final American League Wild Card spot.
For Woods Richardson, clearing waivers gives him an opportunity to rebuild his form in Buffalo. For Toronto, retaining the pitcher provides additional depth as the club enters a crucial stretch of its season.
