The Toronto Blue Jays ' pitching staff has dealt with a bunch of injuries already this season, and it's not only impacting the starters, but also the relievers who have to make up for so many missing innings.
Overnight Tuesday into Wednesday, the Blue Jays took a step to try to help that a bit by signing Matt Bowman .
MLB insider Jon Heyman reported the deal, which is a minor league contract but could see Bowman make it to the major leagues soon.

Bowman was most recently pitching at Triple-A St. Paul, but he exercised a clause in his contract to become a free agent once the Minnesota Twins opted not to call him up to the MLB level.
After just a short stint on the market, Bowman chose to come to Toronto, clearly seeing an opportunity for himself to make an impact.
He was really good so far this season for St. Paul, posting a 1.69 ERA in 14 outings.
Bowman also had two scoreless appearances in March during the World Baseball Classic for Team Israel.
His numbers in 2025 at the major league level weren't good, a 6.20 ERA in 20 outings for the Baltimore Orioles .

Bowman has a career 4.38 ERA at the MLB level, also pitching for the Cardinals , Reds , Twins, Diamondbacks , Yankees and Mariners .
This will be his second stint in the AL East Division. He had three appearances for the Yankees in 2023, allowing four runs in four innings for them.
The Blue Jays seem likely to send Bowman to Triple-A Buffalo first just to get a look at him in their organization, but a call-up seems like a likely outcome sooner rather than later.
