The Toronto Blue Jays are not having the greatest 2026 season, but there is still reason to have optimism about their chances to make the playoffs.
Things have been trending in the right direction lately, even with the injury to Dylan Cease . Alejandro Kirk is getting closer to a return, and recently, the Blue Jays swung a trade for some more bullpen help.
As the Blue Jays announced on Wednesday, they have agreed to a trade with the Detroit Tigers , sending a left-handed pitching prospect to acquire a 3.45 ERA right-handed reliever, Connor Seabold .
Blue Jays trade for Connor Seabold from Tigers
"OFFICIAL: We've acquired RHP Connor Seabold from the Tigers in exchange for Minor League LHP Juanmi Vasquez. To make room on the 40-man roster, RHP Jose Berrios has been transferred to the 60-day IL," the Blue Jays announced.
This is an interesting pickup for the Blue Jays, as Seabold was recently designated for assignment, and instead of trying to add him on waivers or the open market, the Blue Jays made an aggressive move to acquire him from Detroit.
Seabold this season has been a solid reliever. Across 11 appearances, he has a 3.45 ERA with a 1-0 record and 0.3 bWAR. In 15.2 innings pitched, Seabold has 14 strikeouts and five walks with a 124 ERA+.

He did have a 4.10 FIP, indicating some regression could come, but overall, Seabold isn't a bad trade pickup for the bullpen at all.
The 30-year-old has a 7.28 ERA in his big league career with the Boston Red Sox , Tampa Bay Rays , Atlanta Braves , and Tigers. But, since returning from a stint in Korea, he's posted a 3.81 ERA in 18 games the last two years.
Seabold will be another right-handed reliever for the Blue Jays, and to acquire him, they gave up a lefty pitching prospect and moved Berrios to the 60-day injured list not long after it was revealed he'd be out for the entire 2026 season.
