With Kansas City Royals star Bobby Witt Jr. already winning awards, like being honored as American Player of the Week, the 25-year-old has been enjoying a productive season thus far. As Witt's numbers with the Royals are ones to marvel at , he would speak about his approach to the game that is sure to catch any fan's attention.
Speaking with MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM, the shortstop would speak on how much he continues to 'evolve' many aspects of his baseball preparation as he logs more time in the league. So far this season, Witt has recorded a .306 batting average to go along with seven home runs and 22 RBIs.
"My routine has been pretty pinpoint of what I do pretty much…for at least two to three years, but it's always evolving," Witt said. "It's always evolving, whether it's cage routine, whether it's defensive routine, or whatever I want to get better at each and every day."
Royals' Bobby Witt Jr. on what makes baseball "so much fun"
If there is one thing for sure, Witt has been an on-base machine for the Royals, as he recorded a 1.101 OBS in May so far, showing how that evolving preparation has been working. Witt also has an understanding of how baseball is a "game of adjustments," which makes it challenging to get over the peaks and valleys.
"And I think that that's what a lot of guys don't understand. I don't even really get it sometimes," Witt said. "You just had two really good games, you did the exact same thing, and then you just fell off. But your body's always changing. Your body feels different. You're playing so many different games. And so it's just, how can you get yourself ready for whatever time the game is? And some things sometimes it has to change, whether it's your prep work, your cage routine, your whatever it is. And so that's what makes baseball so much fun."
At any rate, it remains to be seen how Witt progresses throughout his fifth season in the MLB, as Kansas City is currently at a 19-24 record.
