Through the portal, Colorado reinforced its secondary, grabbing seven defensive backs from schools such as Notre Dame and James Madison. Among those seven is Tennessee transfer Boo Carter . The former Volunteer was ranked as a top-three safety in the portal after being dismissed halfway through his final season in Knoxville.

Carter has received praise throughout the spring, with nickel coach Kevin Mathis comparing Carter to the Buffs' 2024 Heisman Trophy winner. According to Mathis, Carter has a skill set similar to Hunter's.

"He’s probably going to be one of the most talented guys I’ve ever coached besides Travis [Hunter]," Mathis said.

In his two seasons with the Vols, Carter tallied 63 tackles, two sacks and an interception. During his freshman season, he earned SEC All-Freshman honors. Last season, he totaled 25 tackles and forced three fumbles despite missing the last four games. Carter also returned punts with Tennessee, leading the SEC in punt return average in 2024.

Sizing Carter to Hunter is nothing to snuff at. Hunter was one of the most prolific talents ever in college football, with elite play on both sides of the ball, which earned him many honors. Although Carter hasn't suited up yet for the black and gold, the expectations for the former Volunteer are high going into 2026.
