Boston Celtics lose massive NBA star ahead of decisive Game 7
The Boston Celtics won’t have one of their biggest NBA stars Saturday against the Philadelphia 76ers as the two teams prepare for Game 7.
The two Eastern Conference teams are looking to book their place in the second round of the NBA Playoffs. However, a date with the New York Knicks hinges on which team comes up with the decisive win in Boston.

Boston reportedly has been dealt a monster blow though heading into Game 7. NBA insider Chris Haynes revealed that Jayson Tatum will miss the encounter due to left knee stiffness.

Tatum returned to the Celtics just weeks before the playoffs after healing his brutal Achilles injury. Last year, Tatum was ruled out of the NBA Playoffs against the Knicks when he sustained a season-ending setback.
Celtics face Game 7 adversity without top star
However, the Boston superstar rehabilitated his body to get back in shape for the latter portion of the 2025-26 season. The latest Tatum setback could cost Boston a place in the next round though given Philadelphia ’s current form.

The 76ers clawed their way back into the first round series after initially trailing 3-1 against Boston. However, the last two games featured massive contributions from Joel Embiid for Philadelphia.
Embiid’s health is always a huge concern for Philly fans, but his recent form has given the team a major lift in the postseason alongside Tyrese Maxey , VJ Edgecombe and Paul George .
In Game 6, Tatum finished with 17 points in 29 minutes despite not featuring late in the matchup due to his knee discomfort.
Head coach Joe Mazzulla attempted to reassure fans that Tatum would be available for Game 7. However, it appears that his knee ailment will prevent him from suiting up against the 76ers.
The Celtics still managed to battle for the number one seed in the East for most of the year without Tatum. Although, it’s clear that the former Duke Blue Devils star elevates Boston when he’s available to play.
The winner of Saturday night’s Game 7 will take on the Knicks starting next week as teams look forward towards a run at the NBA Finals. Boston fans will now need to be hopeful that Jaylen Brown and Co. can lead Boston through to the East semifinals.
