- What Are Boston Red Sox Getting in Newly Promoted Reliever?
Ahead of Friday night's series opener against the Athletics , the Boston Red Sox made a move with their pitching staff, selecting left-hander Raymond Burgos from Triple-A Worcester. To make room on the active roster, right-handed reliever Greg Weissert was optioned to Triple-A.
The move to add Burgos to the major league roster comes in the wake of Thursday night's 13-inning marathon in which interim manager Chad Tracy used all eight of his bullpen arms to cover the final 10 innings after starter Ranger Suarez completed only three innings.

About Weissert
It's been an up-and-down season for the 31-year-old right-hander. In 45.1 innings, Weissert has posted a 3.97 ERA; however, he's been better of late, with a 3.30 ERA over his last 30 innings.

He has particularly struggled taking over in the middle of innings with runners already on base, allowing 13 of his 29 inherited baserunners to score, the third most among all relievers.
After throwing 34 pitches in Thursday's win, Weissert became a victim of the numbers game as Boston looked to provide relief to the bullpen. He'll have to remain in Triple-A for at least 10 days before being recalled unless there is an injury.
