The search for a new head men's basketball coach at North Carolina is underway. After the program moved on from Hubert Davis on Tuesday night , the search began as UNC released a statement and is aiming to find the best possible coach for the job.

While no names have officially been connected to the program , the latest report suggests that a candidate mentioned is already out of the running.

Per Matt Norlander of CBS Sports , Boston Celtics President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens has removed himself from the search.

Less than 12 hours after news broke that North Carolina fired Hubert Davis on Tuesday night, an expected but notable bit of clarity to the university's coaching search has already been communicated: Boston Celtics president of basketball operations Brad Stevens has removed his name from consideration for the Tar Heels job, sources told CBS Sports.

It makes sense for Stevens to stay in Boston. He has a great job with a great franchise and seems comfortable in his spot right now.

Now, North Carolina will focus on other candidates on their board. With the NCAA Tournament still ongoing, not every candidate will be made public yet. But being North Carolina, the job will still be attractive.
