The Cincinnati Reds are closing out a lost season this weekend with two more games against the Toronto Blue Jays . Cincinnati's starters have struggled all year long, and that includes right-hander Brady Singer . The 30-year-old right-hander spoke with reporters this week and did not make any excuses for how it unfolded.
"I'm just really unhappy with my year," Singer said, via Charlie Goldsmith of FOX19 . "It's kind of one of the bigger years I needed to do good. I didn't. That's how things go sometimes. I went out there and gave it everything I had every outing. It just didn't work out."

The frustration is easy to understand. Singer put together the worst season of his career right before entering unrestricted free agency. He finished 6-15 with a 5.85 ERA across 157 innings of work. He struck out 126 hitters, but walked 62 and carried a 1.592 WHIP.
The long ball hurt him most. Singer surrendered 32 home runs, a career high, as hard contact seemed to follow him all season.
The period after the All-Star break was especially rough for Singer. Over his final 13 starts, Singer posted a 7.35 ERA. He would have lost his job in the starting rotation if the Reds did not have so many injuries.
His last two outings against the Los Angeles Dodgers and Atlanta Braves were extremely poor. He was unable to get through four innings in either start, proving he may not have what it takes against the league's best lineups.

Singer's career began when he was selected by the Kansas City Royals in the first round of the 2018 MLB Draft. Singer arrived in Cincinnati before the 2025 season in a deal involving former National League Rookie of the Year Jonathan India . He was brought in to help out the back of the rotation which he had done when he was with the Royals.
The only bright spot for Singer's tenure with the Reds was his durability. He still took the ball every fifth day and avoided the injured list entirely, giving manager Terry Francona a reliable arm.
Still, Cincinnati will finish the season sitting in last place in the NL Central. For Singer, the focus shifts to an uncertain winter. Teams do value starters who eat innings and stay off the injured list, and Singer profiles as exactly that. After a season to forget, a fresh start may be exactly what he needs.
