On Sunday afternoon, the Atlanta Braves hit the field on the road vs the Colorado Rockies , looking to complete a series sweep and increase their lead over the NL East. This game marked the first start of the year for pitcher Spencer Strider , who had been out of the lineup up to this point with an oblique injury but was called back to the main club earlier this week after a minor league stint.
Unfortunately, Strider got off to a bit of a rough start to his first game of the season, giving up a run in the first inning against the lowly Rockies. However, thankfully, the Braves would bounce back with three runs of their own in the top of the second to give themselves an early lead.
Last year, Strider had a rough season on the heels of a different injury, with his signature velocity down a few notches, and an overall inconsistency when it came to striking opposing batters out.
However, when he’s at his best, Strider still figures to be a valuable member of the Braves’ rotation moving forward, a rotation that has been decimated by injury so far this season, with Spencer Schwellenbach also still yet to suit up this year as he deals with his own ailment.
Still, the Braves have done an admirable job of holding down the fort in their absence, and the hope now is that Strider and eventually Schwellenbach will be able to return to form and help the Braves expand on their league-best record.
