Brazil play poorly, but snatch draw with Australia at the death
Brazil did not fare well at all in its first test after the 2026 World Cup and drew 1-1 with Australia in the friendly played this Friday.
Playing on Australian soil, Brazil created little throughout the match, showed defensive lapses, and did not get the individual spark from its attacking talents. Brazil thought it had taken the lead through Estêvão in the first half, but the goal was ruled out by VAR.

Australia were rarely troubled and looked well organized for virtually the entire match. The standout was Irankunda, the young Sporting player who created good chances and scored a stunning free-kick in the 28th minute of the second half.
Brazil tried to pile on the pressure, but only found the equalizer with the last play of the game, in the 49th minute. Rayan got on the end of a corner and glanced a header in to level it.
Brazil will face Australia again next Tuesday, once more at 7 a.m. (Brasília time). After that, Brazil will still play against India.

First half: Australia better, but Brazil score
Australia were better in the first half. Brazil struggled to create and to get its marking organized. The Australians had two great chances to open the scoring.
Even so, it was Brazil who found the net. Estêvão fired across goal after a one-two with Endrick and scored. But the goal was ruled out by VAR for a foul by Bruno Guimarães at the start of the move.
Second half: Australian punishment and late partial relief
Brazil came back with more possession and created a little more in the second half. Even so, there were few clear-cut chances.
Raphinha and Estêvão had the best opportunities while the game was still 0-0.

Ancelotti changed the attacking quartet, bringing on Samuel Lino , Pedro and Rayan. But Brazil ended up being punished by a stunning free-kick from Irankunda.
After conceding, Brazil began to see more of the ball, while Australia dropped deeper to protect the result. Brazil only broke through the Australian defense in the final minute, when Rayan powered home a header to make it all square.
