Suarez was on his A-game in his first season with the Braves.
Last offseason, the Atlanta Braves prioritized bolstering their bullpen and did so in signing right-handed reliever Robert Suárez to a three-year, $45 million contract. When he was healthy in 2026, he stepped up to the occasion for the Braves when needed.

After spending the first four seasons of his career with the San Diego Padres, where he had dominated in high-leverage roles and established himself as one of the most feared relievers in the league, Suárez decided to move on and head to Atlanta, where he made a great first impression in year one of his contract.
Suárez was healthy up until the end of June, when he was placed on the injured list with right elbow inflammation. The injury sidelined him for nearly three months, though he made his return to the active roster in the final week of the regular season.
However, in that time frame before he suffered the injury, Suárez was lights-out in relief. In 31 outings, which consisted of 32 innings pitched, Suárez accumulated a 0.56 ERA, which amounts for a total of two earned runs against him. He also struck out 26 batters and walked just six in that span.
His numbers do not come as much of a surprise. In three of the first four seasons of his career, Suárez's ERA was held under 3, while his command has always been a plus of his game.

When he was healthy, his presence in high-leverage complemented the Braves' tandem of elite relief arms in 2026, which also consisted of Raisel Iglesias, Didier Fuentes and Dylan Lee. Having other strong arms in the bullpen is something Suárez has been familiar with.
In San Diego, Suárez held onto the closer job when the team acquired Mason Miller, who now is arguably the league's most dominant closer. Suárez closed games for the Padres in 2024 and 2025, recording 76 saves across the two seasons.
When Suárez arrived in Atlanta, the team already had their set closer in Iglesias, who posted yet another dominant season in 2026. That came to no issue for Suárez, who was familiar with owning a high-leverage, non-closer role in his first two seasons in the league.
That pairing worked out to near-perfection in Suárez's first season in Atlanta. The Braves' bullpen was considered one of the best in the league, and stood tall in the postseason despite the team's early exit.

Suárez made his way back from injury in the season's final week, where he made two appearances and allowed a run in each outing – which matched his total in 31 innings pitched prior to the injury. However, in three appearances in the postseason, Suárez did not allow an earned run.
With two years left on his contract, Suarez proved he is a dominant force out of the Braves' bullpen and is still one of the league's top relievers.
