William Contreras applied pressure to the Los Angeles Dodgers with his late solo home run bomb. Then Logan Henderson, JoJo Romero, Dustin May and the bullpen finished off the rest. The Brewers' pitching crew spearheaded the 7-4 victory and jumped to a 2-0 lead in the National League Championship Series.
Contreras' smash ignited American Family Field, which tied the game at 4-4. That homer became one of four unanswered runs for Milwaukee.
But the options on the hill kept a high-powered Dodgers attack in check. Romero forced Shohei Ohtani to swing and miss during the top of the sixth, fanning him on an 84 miles per hour sweeper. Will Smith struck out next against Romero off his sweeper and Max Muncy grounded out while hitting a 96 mph sinker.
Abner Uribe entered and kept the heat alive on the hill. The relief pitcher struck out Andy Pages to start, then grounded out Kyle Tucker and Tommy Edman to close out the top of the seventh inning. Uribe went after the Dodgers with sinkers and sliders to keep them on their toes.
So Uribe stayed in to strike out Mookie Betts. Then Aaron Ashby forced Freddie Freeman to swing and miss, followed by grounding out Teoscar Hernandez toward first base. Ashby stayed in to close out the win; allowing zero hits including getting Ohtani to fly out toward left field.
Henderson earned the start and stood on the mound for four innings. He allowed three hits and fanned two LA batters. May struck out one during one inning pitched. Romero claimed the victory, plus put the back-to-back World Series champs' backs against the wall. Milwaukee is two wins away from clinching a WS spot for the first time since 1982.
