Brewers keeping Gary Sanchez through trade deadline despite Bo Naylor deal appeared first on ClutchPoints . Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here .
The Milwaukee Brewers missed out on the Tarik Skubal sweepstakes, as despite the best pitcher in baseball being rumored as a fit for Milwaukee , the Detroit Tigers ended up moving their ace to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Even so, the Brewers are still expected to be one of the busiest buyers during the trade deadline.
In fact, the team has already gotten to work wheeling and dealing, evidenced by their trade for Bo Naylor and Codi Heuer . The deal that landed the team a new catcher in the form of Naylor saw them part with Craig Yoho and Blake Perkins . Catcher was a position of need for Milwaukee, and they gave up right-handed pitching and outfield depth, both of which the team had a surplus of.
However, Naylor's presence does create somewhat of a logjam at catcher. Of course, William Contreras is one of the best catchers in baseball, and he is backed up by Gary Sanchez , a limited defensive backstop but one who always provides the power at the plate. The addition of Naylor led to some wondering if Sanchez would be flipped in another trade, but The Athletic reports that the Brewers won't move on from Sanchez, who can also spend time at designated hitter.

The Brewers also have Jeferson Quero on the roster. Quero is currently dealing with bicep soreness, but is expected to resume catching around Aug. 15. Naylor showed promise as a rookie in 2023 when he batted .237, but he hasn't been nearly as effective in the years since. Even so, the Brewers need a long-term backup option, and even potentially a replacement for Contreras, who could hit the open market after 2027.
