Brewers' Mitchell Avoids Catastrophic Injury

The Milwaukee Brewers have had plenty of major injuries take place this season, and there's a world where Garrett Mitchell could've been added to that list.
In the 2026 Little League Classic , Mitchell was pulled from the game after he was hit by a pitch in the fourth inning.

This wasn't a usual hit by pitch, solely due to the fact that manager Pat Murphy had called for Mitchell to lay down a bunt.
Thankfully, the crew was ready for anything in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, and he quickly received an X-ray which ended any doubt that he could be sidelined for the foreseeable future.
The Brewers are able to enjoy an off day on Monday, Aug. 25, but will resume play on the road August 25 as they head to Citi Field to take on the New York Mets .
Mitchell on his near injury
This is a guy who's been plagued with injuries throughout his career, but thankfully, this season has been different.

Mitchell has remained healthy, and it's turned into a career year. The 27-year-old is currently listed as day-to-day, but there doesn't seem to be an Injured List stint in his future.
"It hurt. It didn't feel good, but it's OK," he told MLB.com 's Adam McCalvy.
McCalvy noted that "the X-ray provided Mitchell with peace of mind," which proves how something like this could be more mental than anything.
Mitchell is currently slashing .262/.360/.422 with a .781 OPS and a career high 2.8 WAR. The California native is sitting at nine home runs, meaning the next time he hits one would mark his first double-digit home run season in his five-year career.

Brewers can't afford to lose Mitchell
The only major issue in Mitchell's game is the fact that he strikes out 31.7% of the time which is among the fifth worst percentile in all of baseball.
When it comes to everything else, he's among the best hitters in the league, according to Baseball Savant .
Mitchell's average exit velocity sits at 92.9 mph, which is good for the 95th percentile. He's also in the 95th percentile for his hard-hit percentage, 51.7%, but not even those two numbers are his most impressive.
With a bat speed of 77.5 mph, Mitchell is among the 98th percentile in the entire league. He has stellar numbers in terms of his chase percentage, barrel percentage, and walk percentage, with all three being in the 84th percentile or higher, but those first three numbers prove just how vital he can be to this team when he's not injured or striking out.
