The Milwaukee Brewers decided it was too soon to have Brandon Sproat in their rotation, but now, he may have manager Pat Murphy rethinking everything.
Together, Sproat and Tate Kuehner combined for the first Nashville Sounds no-hitter since 2017 .
Granted, this was in a seven-inning game, but it's still a major milestone for not just Sproat, but also their Triple-A organization as a whole.
The Sounds came out on top with a 2-0 victory thanks to Sproat's flawless three innings and then four more from Kuehner.
Their opponent, the Norfolk Tides, drew one walk but it didn't come against Sproat, someone who was perfect in his three innings of work.
Sproat looks dialed in at Triple-A
Remember, Murphy was so upset with Sproat he pulled the plug on him mid at-bat, something that seemingly never happens with the back-to-back National League Manager of the Year.
He ended up doing the same with Robert Gasser , but Coleman Crow is another pitcher with the Sounds who has his name in the hat of returning to the big league level.
As for Sproat, no one can take away from the fact that his demotion turned into a nearly decade old record being set for the Brewers Triple-A affiliate.
Sproat's ERA sits at 4.50 after throwing three scoreless, hitless innings against the Tides. Of the Sounds nine strikeouts in this one, Sproat provided five of those.
Is there room for Sproat with the Brewers?
Even without Brandon Woodruff and Quinn Priester , it seems like the Brewers have a surplus of pitchers , something most teams would love to have.
That doesn't mean they're all quality starting pitchers who can slot into the postseason rotation, far from it, but guys like Shane Drohan , Gasser, Crow, and now Sproat all have question marks attached to their name heading into the postseason.
Seeing as Crow and Sproat are at Triple-A, their names are likely at the bottom of the totem poll. Milwaukee has the back half of their bullpen locked in with the trio of Aaron Ashby , Abner Uribe , and Trevor Megill , and then they have a rock-solid long relief pitcher in Chad Patrick .
Elsewhere, they just went out and got Antonio Senzatela and JoJo Romero . Senzatela seems to be settling in, and Romero should be back sooner rather than later.
No one is expecting Sproat to start for the Brewers in the playoffs, but he could come in and deliver in those middle innings, should he be given a second chance to prove himself this season.
