PHOENIX – Rob Zastryzny made only one appearance while pitching for Canada in the World Baseball Classic despite his team reaching the knockout round for the first time and being one of the only big-leaguers in the bullpen.
Now we know why.

The Milwaukee Brewers left-hander suffered a shoulder injury during the tournament and is headed to the injured list, slightly shaking up the team's pitching plans for the opening day roster.
Zastryzny was diagnosed with a left rhomboid strain while pitching in the WBC and has been treated conservatively by the Brewers since returning to the team late last week after Canada's loss to the United States in the quarterfinals. He is projected for a bullpen session this weekend and a return to play in early April.
Zastryzny, 33, was slated for a role in the bullpen to begin the season but now that he is headed for the injured list, right-hander Easton McGee figures to take the final spot.
One of Milwaukee's other options to take Zastryzny's spot was Craig Yoho , who is also on the shelf briefly. The right-hander hurt his right calf March 12 and is dealing with a soleus injury in his right calf with a projected return April 15.
Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Rob Zastryzny (58) throws in the outfield during spring training workouts Saturday, February 14, 2026, at American Family Fields of Phoenix in Phoenix, Arizona.
