A series that began so promisingly finished as an unmitigated disaster for theMilwaukee Brewers.
Less than 24 hours after they were shut out by theSan Francisco Giants, their pitching was pummeled both literally and figuratively in a 12-9 loss that left the Brewers to settle for only a split of the four-game set at American Family Field.

Coleman Crow started and lasted only 2 ⅓ innings, being scorched for nine hits and six runs along the way, then relieversDL HallandGrant Andersonneeded to be removed from the game with injuries – not great news with a road trip beginning atColorado's Coors Field on Friday and then continuing against the A's in Las Vegas.
Jake Woodford, next man up out of the bullpen, was quickly rocked as he surrendered a grand slam toEric Haasewith the Giants batting around for the second time on the day en route to a six-run seventh.
In all, the Giants racked up 20 hits – most allowed by the Brewers since 2017.

Jackson Chouriohomered twice and collected three hits to provide most of Milwaukee's offense whileDavid Hamiltonalso went deep in the eighth and then nearly tied the game up in the game's final at-bat with a drive to center that was ultimately caught.
Two-dinger day for Jackson Chourio
Christian Yelich's leadoff single in the bottom of the seventh set Chourio up for his big moment, a two-run homer to center that gave him his third career two-homer game and pulled the Brewers to within 12-5.
Andrew Vaughnalmost had a two-run homer of his own four batters later only to haveDrew Gilbertclimb the wall in right-center and rob him with a leaping grab.

Then in the eighth, David Hamilton went to the opposite field for a two-out solo homer to cut the deficit down to 12-6.
Woodford took one for the team and carried the game to the finish line after his rough sixth, allowing seven hits and four runs with a strikeout in three innings and 56 pitches.
Milwaukee made things interesting in the bottom of the ninth by loading the bases with nobody out and thenBlake Perkinsdrawing a walk to make it 12-7.
A groundout bySal Frelickand single byLuis Rengifomade it 9-0, then Hamilton sent a drive the warning track only to see his potentially game-tying, three-run homer reeled in to end it.
Brewers center fielder Jackson Chourio is unable to get to a ball hit by Giants catcher Eric Haase that went for a for a grand slam in the seventh inning on June 4 at American Family Field.
Day goes from bad to worse in a hurry
With the offense doing nothing againstHouser, Hall was at least a bright spot as he allowed only a single over his 2 ⅓ innings until leaving the game with head athletic trainer Brad Epstein after injuring himself while facing his eighth batter on the day.

Manager Pat Murphy said after the game Hall suffered a left sub-scapular and pectoral strain with imaging yet to come.
In the bottom of the frame the offense did show signs of life as Yelich doubled, Chourio homered andBrice Turangdoubled to make it 6-3 and chase Houser from the game.
But things took another bad turn in the seventh when Anderson took an 89.6-mph line drive fromBryce Eldridgeoff his right forearm and was also forced from the game.
Anderson suffered a contusion, but said after the game X-rays were negative.
Woodford took over for Anderson and two batters later the ex-Brewer Haase belted a grand slam to center to break the game wide open.

The Giants went on to plate six runs in the seventh, racking up seven straight hits at one point in the process, to leave the Brewers in a 12-3 crater.
A short afternoon for Coleman Crow
After Crow tossed a 1-2-3 second, back to back doubles byWilly Adamesand Jung Ho Lee were followed by a walk and aMatt Chapmansingle. Crow recovered briefly by striking out Haase, but a single by Gilbert followed, and manager Pat Murphy pulled the plug at that point.
Over 2 ⅓ innings and 70 pitches, Crow (0-1) surrendered nine hits, six runs and two walks with two strikeouts – easily the worst of his four starts for the Brewers this season.
An awful beginning
Schmitt, swinging at the first pitch, sent a drive to left field that bounced off the top of the wall, over and into the Brewers bullpen for a 1-0 Giants lead. Chourio, seemingly unsure of where he was on the warning track, bumped into the wall before even being able to try for a leaping catch.
From there, San Francisco racked up four more hits – including three straight with two outs – to leave Milwaukee in a 3-0 hole and Crow reeling.
