Background

Brice Pollock enters the 2026 season as one of the cornerstones of the Texas Tech secondary after transferring over from Mississippi State last offseason following two seasons in Starkville. A true freshman contributor in 2023 for the Bulldogs, Pollock quickly earned significant playing time and carried that momentum into 2025, developing into one of the Red Raiders' top defensive players. In his lone season in Lubbock, he established himself as a physical, competitive defensive back capable of matching up with opposing No. 1 receivers while also making plays on the football. His production has included 120 career tackles, 18 pass breakups, and six interceptions, and he has become one of the leaders of Texas Tech's defense entering the 2026 campaign. With his combination of zone-coverage ability, ball skills, and toughness, Pollock has also emerged as an intriguing NFL Draft prospect.

A native of Georgia, Pollock starred at Shiloh High School in Snellville before signing with Mississippi State in the 2023 recruiting class. He was widely regarded as a three- or four-star player depending on the recruiting platform. Pollock attracted offers from some of the nation's premier programs, including Ole Miss, Penn State, Nebraska, Colorado, Vanderbilt, Michigan State, Pitt, Kentucky, and UNC, among others, before choosing Mississippi State. Known for his outstanding instincts, fluid hips, and competitive mentality, he arrived in Lubbock as an impact transfer portal addition prior to the 2025 season.

Player Evaluation

Texas Tech CB Brice Pollock's biggest strength is his instinctive approach to coverage, consistently putting himself in position to disrupt the passing game. Pollock has a strong feel for zone coverage and is one of the more natural zone defenders in the 2027 class, routinely keeping his eyes on the quarterback while identifying route concepts developing underneath. That awareness allows him to bait quarterbacks into poor decisions and capitalize with impressive ball skills, whether that comes through interceptions or pass breakups. Pollock also brings a physical, tenacious mentality to the position and has experience playing in a variety of coverages, including off-man, press, and multiple zone concepts. His versatility and football intelligence give him a strong foundation as a coverage defender.

The biggest question surrounding Pollock is his overall athletic profile, particularly when it comes to man coverage. He is more of a middling mover, lacking the long speed and twitch that can be necessary to consistently stay attached to NFL-caliber receivers on vertical or breaking routes. Those limitations could ultimately push him toward a more zone-heavy role at the next level, which may make him less attractive to teams that rely heavily on man coverage. There is also a possibility that Pollock could eventually transition to safety if his athletic limitations prevent him from maximizing his potential at cornerback. While his instincts and coverage awareness give him a path to success, his lack of elite movement skills could ultimately determine how versatile his defensive role becomes.

For heavy zone coverage teams, they should value Pollock's combination of instincts, ball skills, and tenacity. There are, however, athletic limitations that could eventually move him inside. His mental side should still provide a solid floor as a potential contributor on the back end of a defense.
