Brighton set to block January exit amid interest from European giants
Brighton Transfer Latest as Diego Gomez Attracts Atletico Madrid and AC Milan Interest
Brighton have made their position clear on Diego Gomez ahead of the January transfer window, with TeamTalk reporting that Atlético Madrid and AC Milan are both monitoring the Paraguay international closely.

The 23-year-old midfielder has emerged as one of the standout figures in Fabian Hurzeler's side, and the current expectation is that "a move in the January transfer window is highly unlikely", particularly given Brighton's excellent start to the campaign. The Seagulls are flying high in the Premier League, sitting third, and Gomez has played a major part in that rise.
Credit to TeamTalk, who report that Gomez is "attracting interest from across Europe", with Atlético and Milan both keen on a player whose stock continues to rise. His impact has been impossible to miss, especially after he "scored a spectacular goal from the halfway line in the 5-0 rout of bitter rivals Crystal Palace."
Diego Gomez Central to Brighton Plans
Brighton's stance makes complete sense. Gomez has been described as "a key figure in Brighton's strong start to the season" and his profile fits exactly what top clubs look for in a modern midfielder. He brings intensity, quality in possession and tactical flexibility, with the source noting his "combination of energy, technical ability and versatility".

That versatility matters. He can influence matches in central areas or drift wider when needed, giving Hurzeler valuable options within a team competing strongly on multiple fronts. It is also understood that Atlético's interest is part of a longer-term process, with scouts watching him in recent matches.

Brighton Hold Strong Negotiating Position
Any club hoping to test Brighton's resolve will face a major obstacle. Gomez "signed a new contract in August that ties him to the Amex Stadium until 2031", a detail that leaves Brighton in a powerful position. As TeamTalk outline, "any potential suitor would need to meet a substantial valuation, especially mid-season."

There is no obvious pressure point here. "Brighton are under no pressure to sell" and the wider context only reinforces that. With the club in strong league form and involved in Europe, the hierarchy are focused on stability, continuity and protecting a highly promising season.
Summer 2027 Could Become Key Moment
While January looks quiet on this front, the longer view is worth noting. The report states that "the picture could change by the summer of 2027" if Gomez sustains this level and Brighton fall short of European qualification. At that point, interest from clubs of this stature could become increasingly difficult to dismiss.
For now, Brighton's message appears firm. Diego Gomez is admired, being watched and valued highly, but a mid-season departure is not on the agenda.

Our View
This is exactly the sort of update everyone wanted to hear. There is enough noise around Brighton every time a player starts performing well, so seeing such a firm line on Gomez brings real reassurance. He has quickly become one of those players who changes the feel of a match, whether through his energy, his willingness to take responsibility, or moments of quality that lift the whole ground.
The contract point matters massively. Tying him down until 2031 means control stays with Brighton, and that is where it should be. There is no reason to entertain January interest when the team is pushing hard in the league and trying to build something serious under Fabian Hurzeler. Selling now would send the wrong message internally and externally.
It is also refreshing that this feels like a club acting with conviction. Brighton have earned the right to be ambitious. If Atlético Madrid and AC Milan admire Gomez, that says plenty about his level, and it says plenty about the environment Brighton have created too.

There will always be talk when a player performs like this, and there may come a point in the future when the situation changes. Right now, keeping him is the right call in every sense. It protects momentum, rewards form and shows this squad can keep growing together. That is what matters most.
