While rookie tackle Max Iheanachor captured early headlines following the Pittsburgh Steelers offensive resurgence, film analysis reveals that veteran right guard Brock Hoffman was the critical anchor stabilizing the right side of the offensive line.
Breaking down the Week 3 victory tape on " The Snap Count " podcast, former Steelers offensive lineman Trai Essex pointed to Hoffman's technical execution and communication as the primary reasons the front five eliminated costly assignment errors. After opening the year on the bench behind Spencer Anderson, Hoffman's insertion at right guard transformed the unit's continuity.

"I was surprised by how well Brock Hoffman played. This kid, not kid, this is a grown ass man," Essex remarked to co-host Charlie Batch. "CB, he is a technician. Excellent technique. Keep that left hand free, work up to the backside backer. Four-yard gain, you can work with that."
Hoffman's mastery of double-team "slip blocks" allowed Iheanachor to play without hesitancy. By maintaining proper hand placement and positioning on interior defenders, Hoffman absorbed secondary pass-rush assignments, giving his rookie counterpart clear operational angles.
Batch drew direct parallels to last season, noting how veteran leadership along the interior accelerates a young tackle's development.

"You need that veteran presence," Batch stated, comparing Hoffman's impact on Iheanachor to the steadying influence Isaac Seumalo provided Broderick Jones during his rookie campaign.
"To your point, I think that absolutely gave [Iheanachor] a sense of comfort knowing that the person next to him is going to be where he is supposed to be on every single play," added Batch.
Essex emphasized that Hoffman's aggressive, technician-first demeanor was infectious across the line.
"When you got somebody named Brock Hoffman next to you who has done this at a high level, you can have confidence that number 67 is going to be right there in your hip pocket," said Essex.

By delivering technique and veteran composure, Hoffman provided Pittsburgh with an indispensable interior solution.
