Denver Broncos general manager George Paton could create significant additional salary cap space with minimal effort this offseason.
The Broncos could create an additional $71,678,826 in salary cap space through simple restructures, according to OverTheCap.com . Combined with the team's estimated $24,879,607 in current cap space available, maxing out their possible simple restructures would leave the team with $96,558,433 in total cap space.
Denver's unlikely to max out its simple restuctures, but a few adjustments might be possible. Simple restructures convert salary into signing bonuses that spread cap hits out over the life of a contract, lowering the current year's cap hit.
Broncos players with the top restructure possibilities are guard Quinn Meinerz ($11,730,750), tackle Mike McGlinchey ($10,460,000) and defensive lineman D.J. Jones ($8,392,500), according to OTC . Three other players could save the team more than $7 million in 2026 cap space through simple restructures.
Again, this doesn't guarantee anything — and Denver wouldn't restructure every candidate's contract — but the team has flexibility to easily create more cap space this spring if they need to. Clubs can begin negotiating with pending free agents from other teams on March 9. The new league year — and NFL free agency — will officially begin on March 11.
