The Denver Broncos have made a decision on cornerback Ja'Quan McMillian.
The Broncos are placing a second-round tender on McMillian that will pay him $5,811,000 in 2026, according to a report from ESPN's Jeremy Fowler . As a restricted free agent, McMillian will still be eligible to negotiate with other clubs. If another team makes McMillian an offer that Denver does not want to match, that team would have to trade a second-round pick to the Broncos for the cornerback.
It's a smart move for Denver because McMillian is a key member of the defense, and the high draft pick associated with his tender could prevent other teams from making a move. If they do, the Broncos have the security of either matching the offer or receiving another second-round pick.
McMillian (5-10, 183 pounds) originally joined the team as an undrafted free agent out of East Carolina in 2022. He emerged as the club's slot cornerback in 2023 and has totaled 188 tackles, 24 pass breakups, six interceptions (including two returned for touchdowns), seven sacks and five forced fumbles since then.
McMillian is poised to continue serving as Denver's slot cornerback with Pat Surtain and Riley Moss on the outside. Jahdae Barron and Kris Abrams-Draine can provide coverage at multiple positions.
