- Broncos offensive lineman suffers season-ending quad injury
Denver Broncos backup center Michael Deiter suffered a season-ending quad injury on Tuesday, coach Sean Payton confirmed after Wednesday's practice. Deiter will join defensive lineman Matt Henningsen ( Achilles ) on injured reserve.
So with Luke Wattenberg ( unknown ) and Alex Forsyth (unknown) already sidelined, Denver's down to versatile backup lineman Calvin Throckmorton and undrafted rookie Gavin Ortega at center. Other options who could fill in at the position include star guard Quinn Meinerz and fourth-round draft pick Kage Casey.

Elsewhere on the injury front, wide receiver Jaylen Waddle ( strain ), receiver Marvin Mims ( unknown ), offensive lineman Alex Palczewski ( unknown ), tight end Nate Adkins ( unknown ), outside linebacker Dasan McCullough (unknown) and linebacker Jordan Turner ( unknown ) worked on a side field with Wattenberg and Forsyth on Wednesday.
Denver coach Sean Payton noted after yesterday's practice that not every player on the side field is injured. Last week, wide receiver Courtland Sutton was given three-straight veteran rest days.
"Some of it is guys that are having a day where they're not participating, some of it may be they're just getting past an injury," Payton said. "There are probably a few reasons why."
Not spotted at practice on Wednesday were receiver Michael Bandy ( unknown ) and tight end Caleb Lohner ( knee )
