Broncos Wire 's 90-man offseason roster series continues today with a look at third-year running back Cody Schrader , No. 25. Note: During the offseason, offensive and defensive players can share a number , and Schrader is currently sharing No. 25 with cornerback Brent Austin. If they both end up making the team, one of Schrader or Austin will have to change their jersey number before the regular season.
Before the Broncos :Schrader (5-9, 214 pounds) was an undrafted free agent out of Truman State and Missouri in 2024 who initially signed with the San Francisco 49ers . After being cut by the Niners, he was picked up by the Los Angeles Rams . In two games over two years with the Rams , Schrader had one rush for three yards and one catch for six yards. After that, Schrader had brief stints with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Houston Texans .
Broncos tenure:Schrager was claimed off waivers by Denver last December. He was later bumped down to the practice squad, where he finished the year. After the 2025 season wrapped up, Schrader signed a reserve/future contract with the Broncos.
Chances to make the 53-man roster:Long shot. Schrader is a running back who hasn't had a whole lot of on-field experience, but could provide enough competition to make keeping a fifth running back a thought in the back of the minds of coaches. Competing in a crowded backfield, though, Schrader will face an uphill battle to make the active roster.
