Broncos' updated linebacker depth chart with Red Murdock

The Denver Broncos will have a fascinating linebacker competition this summer.

Last week, the Broncos used the final pick in the 2026 NFL draft to select Buffalo linebacker Red Murdock , who holds the NCAA's FCS record for forced fumbles with 17. Then, right after the draft ended, Denver landed high-profile undrafted Texas A&M linebacker Taurean York .

Neither Murdock nor York will be locks to make the 53-man roster this summer, but both of them will have legitimate opportunities to win a role on the active roster.

Justin Strnad and Alex Singleton have returned as the two starting inside linebackers, and Jonah Elliss will get snaps at the position in 2026 . Behind them, Murdock and York are set to compete with Karene Reid , Lavelle Bailey and Jordan Turner for the backup linebacker spots.

Broncos linebacker depth chart

  • LB1: Alex Singleton, Karene Reid

  • LB2: Justin Strnad, Jonah Elliss

  • Depth: Lavelle Bailey, Jordan Turner

  • Rookies: Red Murdock, Taurean York

(Note that this is a projected depth chart, not an official depth chart from the team. Denver won't be required to release an official depth chart until preseason begins in the summer.)

For now, Reid and Elliss are likely the early favorites for the top two backup spots, and Bailey and Turner have the initial edge over Murdock and York because they have more experience. Everyone will be given a chance to impress during training camp and preseason, though, and the Broncos are set to have a fierce battle for roster spots at ILB.
