The Cleveland Browns have tabbed yet another offensive lineman in NFL free agency . This time, they have landed a two-time Pro Bowl interior offensive lineman, Elgton Jenkins .
A former second round pick, Jenkins has been known for his versatility to play all five positions. Most recently, Jenkins has played center for the Green Bay Packers before suffering from some injuries that slowed him down. Just turning 30 years old at the end of the season, however, Jenkins still has plenty of football left in him. He was just released from the Packers due to salary cap complications.
Jenkins has made two Pro Bowls with the Packers and is best when at guard. We'll see if the Browns opt to play him at center or guard. One guard spot is locked down with the signing of former first round pick Zion Johnson , and the Browns also just re-signed Teven Jenkins . However, Jenkins' deal has not been disclosed, so there is no telling what the future holds for him or for Joel Bitonio , who is contemplating retirement.
Looking at Elgton Jenkins' deal with Browns
The Browns have signed Jenkins to a two-year deal, worth $24 million . The guaranteed money, however, has not been released, but it can be assumed that it will likely fall in the $12 million range.
ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported that the Browns actually explored a trade for Jenkins before the Packers cut him. The Browns then stood pat and were able to hammer out a deal with the Pro Bowler. Fowler reported that the Baltimore Ravens were also pursuing Jenkins.
