It's not often, especially in today's day and age, that someone wants to be a Cleveland Brown. Over the last 25 seasons, the Browns have been a losing franchise, and there are no two ways to cut it.
They have just one playoff win since their return and a handful of winning seasons since they have been back. They were actually so bad when they came back that the NFL changed the expansion team rules so that new NFL teams wouldn't be as bad as the Cleveland Browns were when they came back.
All of that is to say that what we hear from the newest Cleveland Browns ' linebacker, Reid Carrico, is an incredible surprise. After signing with the Browns, Carrico was actually excited to be a Brown. His direct quote was, "Cleveland is where I wanted to go... My agent called me and asked if I wanted to sign with the Browns... My dad was a Browns' fan. You bet I want to be a Brown."
How awesome is that? If Carrico's dad was a Browns fan, it is safe to say that brown and orange were flowing through the Carrico household, and at some point, a young Reid dreamed about playing in Cleveland. Nearly every kid dreams of playing for their favorite team, a very select few live this as a reality.
Carrico was signed by the Browns after the Rookie Minicamp last week, and he completes the trifecta of Ohio football . He played his high school ball for low division powerhouse Ironton High School before spending three seasons as an Ohio State Buckeye, and finishing his college career at West Virginia.
Carrico has a natural nose for football. He finished last season with 69 total tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, and 4.5 sacks. He notched just 5 career tackles in Columbus.
He will have to work hard to make this team. If he can prove himself as a special teams ace that can contribute as a depth linebacker, then he will have a chance to make this roster. Until then, he will have to compete one day at a time to prove it and enjoy every moment in the orange and brown.
