The Boston Bruins made a substantial commitment to Fraser Minten before the season began. Less than three weeks into the new campaign, the 22-year-old is providing plenty of reasons to feel comfortable with that decision.
Minten scored twice Tuesday night as Boston defeated the San Jose Sharks 6-3, extending its winning streak to three games. His performance was particularly important because the Bruins needed an answer every time San Jose threatened to change the momentum. The young forward opened the scoring in the first period before delivering another goal midway through the third. That second goal came after Macklin Celebrini had brought the Sharks within one, restoring a two-goal advantage when Boston needed it most.
It was another impressive performance from a player who has rapidly become an important piece of the Bruins' future.
Boston Made Its Commitment Before the Breakout
The Bruins signed Minten to a seven-year, $50.4 million extension on Sept. 8. The agreement carries a $7.2 million annual salary-cap hit and runs through the 2033-34 season.
That represents a considerable investment in a player who had completed only one full NHL season. However, Minten's production during the 2025-26 campaign offered evidence that he could develop into something special. He played all 82 games, finishing with 17 goals, 18 assists and 35 points.
His 35 points were the most by a Bruins rookie since the 2017-18 season. Minten also led NHL rookies with a plus-21 rating while recording 142 hits, demonstrating that his contributions extended beyond scoring.
Boston acquired Minten from the Toronto Maple Leafs in March 2025 as part of the Brandon Carlo trade. At the time, the move represented a significant change to the organization's defensive group. Minten's development is making that decision increasingly interesting.

Minten Is Becoming More Than a Promising Prospect
The most encouraging aspect of Tuesday's performance wasn't simply the two goals. It was when they happened.
Minten gave Boston an early advantage before scoring again after San Jose had threatened to erase the Bruins' lead. His third-period goal helped prevent another momentum swing and allowed Boston to finish the game with greater control. Charlie McAvoy also scored in his season debut following a six-game suspension, while Jeremy Swayman made 35 saves. Those contributions were important, but Minten's offensive production continues to provide Boston with another reliable option.
David Pastrnak remains the Bruins' most recognizable offensive star. A team hoping to become a consistent contender, however, needs additional players capable of producing important goals. Minten is showing signs that he can become one of them.
The Bruins now head to Anaheim for Friday's matchup against the Ducks. Boston has improved to 5-2-0, and the early results suggest the organization may have secured an important building block for years to come.
Seven years is a long commitment in professional hockey. For a player still developing at 22, it also offers considerable room for growth. If Minten continues delivering performances like Tuesday's, Boston's investment could eventually look like one of its smartest decisions.
