The Boston Bruins (44-27-10) ended their five-game losing streak with a 3-2 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets (40-29-12) at Nationwide Arena on Sunday.
Sean Kuraly (6), Henri Jokiharju (2), and Mark Kastelic (10) each scored for the Bruins. Kuraly finished with three points, while Jokiharju and Kastelic each had two. James Hagens also recorded his first NHL point.
Joonas Korpisalo made 35 saves and beat his former team for the second time this season.
Before the game started, James Hagens led the team onto the ice for his rookie lap, something the Bruins have not done in recent memory.
The Blue Jackets struck first at 3:59 . Mason Marchment redirected a feed from Dante Fabbro behind Korpisalo.
But the Bruins responded, scoring on their first shot of the night. Henri Jokiharju drove a shot that Mark Kastelic tipped off Sean Kuraly 's skate and into the net .
For Kuraly, it is his first goal since February 26, which was also against the Blue Jackets.
The Bruins were outshot 14-3 in the first period and did not record their first shot until the 10:31 mark.
The penalty kill was put to the test in the second period, and they succeeded. They killed off three Blue Jackets power plays in the middle frame, good to finish the game 3-for-3.
In the final minute of the second period, James Hagens won the puck off the boards and kicked it to Sean Kuraly . He found Henri Jokiharju, and the Finnish defenseman scored for the second time in seven games.
With a secondary assist, Hagens recorded his first NHL point.
The Bruins outshot the Blue Jackets 11-10 in the second period but trailed 24-14 overall.
Former Bruin Danton Heinen played a long pass that hit Henri Jokiharju's back and sprung Adam Fantilli on a breakaway. Fantilli beat Korpisalo low to tie the game 87 seconds into the third period.
On a delayed penalty, Sean Kuraly played the puck to Mark Kastelic, and he beat Jet Greaves up high to regain the Bruins' lead with 9:38 to play in the third.
For the first time in his NHL career, Kastelic has 10 goals and 20 points in a single season.
Joonas Korpisalo stopped all six shots he faced after the goal, helping to secure the Bruins' first win since March 31.
The Bruins finished 3-0-0 against the Blue Jackets this season, and with the loss, the Blue Jackets' playoff chances took a hit, falling to 6.4% per MoneyPuck .
The Bruins will close out the regular season on Tuesday night against the New Jersey Devils (41-36-3), then turn their attention to the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
