BOSTON — Neither David Pastrnak nor Pavel Zacha will be in the Bruins lineup on Friday against the New York Rangers.
Marco Sturm walked into his pregame media availability and dropped the bombshell that his entire first line from Wednesday’s win on Long Island will all miss Friday’s nationally televised game.
Sturm didn’t offer any specifics on either Pastrnak or Zacha, only that they were day-to-day. It’s not clear if they’re battling illness or injury. Both players finished the game on Wednesday against the Islanders without an apparent ailment.
“I gave them the day off yesterday. It’s something that came up today,” Sturm said. “We have to wait until tomorrow.”
The Bruins are already missing Charlie McAvoy and Viktor Arvidsson.
Matej Blumel, who started Wednesday’s game on the top line with Pastrnak and Zacha, went on long-term injured reserve after suffering a first-period injury.
“Blumel will be out long-term, I think,” Sturm said. “He’s going to have more testing.”
Casey Mittelstadt is going from injured reserve right into the lineup. Georgii Merkulov, who was called up from Providence and Riley Tufte will enter the Bruins lineup.
Joonas Korpisalo will start in goal against the Rangers.
