- Buckeyes' Linebacker Gets to Face Old Teammate in Week One Against Ball State
The Ball State Cardinals officially named their starting quarterback for the opener against the Ohio State Buckeyes , and it is junior quarterback Keldric Luster.
Luster is on his third school in four years, as he started at SMU before transferring to Texas State and is now finishing at Ball State. Luster has virtually no stats in his career, as after three years he has completed four passes for 37 total yards.

He is going to have quite the baptism to his time at Ball State as he is going to face one of the best defenses in the country.
However, that is not the biggest story here. The main headline is that Luster and the Buckeyes' linebacker Riley Pettijohn were teammates in high school. Pettijohn had this to say about his former teammate: "Kelderic was amazing in high school. He was mobile, he could throw, he could do everything."
Those two were teammates at the historic McKinney High School in Texas.

It is really hard to stick with a college program sometimes, and Luster has bounced around looking to find that success.
I'd be willing to bet a lot of money that Ball State isn't going to find much success against the Buckeyes in a few weeks' time, and it could potentially be a very long day for Luster.
The Buckeyes defense is going to be one of the most fascinating stories of the early season in college football. They have to replace three top-11 Draft picks from last year's team and five total players who were selected in the second round or higher.
However, they have the guys to backfill those positions.

Devin Sanchez looks like a lockdown corner; Pettijohn and the newest team captain, Payton Pierce, will man the middle; Jaylen McClain is taking over for Caleb Downs on the back end; and Kenyatta Jackson is leading the defensive line.
I don't believe that the players the Buckeyes will have next year will be of the caliber of the stars from the last couple of years, but that's a very high bar to clear. If they are even 75 percent of what those guys were on the field, then the Buckeyes are going to be in really great shape.
It all gets going in just a couple of weeks when the Buckeyes open up with Luster's Cardinals. I t might be a long day for him, but at the very least, he gets to compete against his old teammate.
Hopefully Pettijohn shows at least a little bit of mercy.
