With rumors floating around the Milwaukee Bucks regarding a myriad of topics, like dealing with star Giannis Antetokounmpo , the team also needed to figure out its next head coach. After Doc Rivers stepped down from the Bucks, the team has found its next head coach in Taylor Jenkins, who previously had the same role with the Memphis Grizzlies , via Shams Charania of ESPN.
"BREAKING: The Milwaukee Bucks and Taylor Jenkins are finalizing a deal to make Jenkins the franchise's new head coach, sources tell me and [Ramona Shelburne]. Jenkins, a Bucks assistant in 2018-19, went 250-214 and made three postseasons across six seasons in Memphis," Charania wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
As mentioned by Charania, Jenkins has familiarity with the Bucks organization as he was an assistant coach with Milwaukee from 2018 to 2019 before becoming the head coach with the Grizzlies for six seasons. Now he starts the next step of his coaching journey as the team is in flux, dealing with the uncertainty around Antetokounmpo.
Taylor Jenkins was seen as the "top target" by the Bucks
There's no denying that there were rumors around the Bucks hiring Jenkins before , making the decision one that might not be that surprising for fans. Jenkins had a winning record in his time with Memphis in turning around that franchise, with the hope he can do the same in Milwaukee, as it could be rebuilding after a potential trade away from Antetokounmpo in the summer.
According to Charania, Jenkins was seen as the "top target" of the Bucks, embodying many aspects that could change the team for the better.
"Jenkins was seen as the top available commodity in the NBA coaching landscape, and his player development pedigree, tenure as a culture-setter, and someone who drives competitiveness made him the Bucks' top target. The Bucks' brass, including ownership, met in person with Jenkins last week in Memphis and on Tuesday in Milwaukee to secure his commitment, sources said," Charania wrote on X.
At any rate, Jenkins will now lead Milwaukee and look to improve after finishing with a 32-50 record, putting them 11th in the Eastern Conference.
