One of the biggest stories of the 2025-2026 NBA season has been the future of Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo . Although Antetokounmpo's season was beset with injuries, he was a prime trade candidate leading into the NBA's trade deadline. But ultimately, he stayed in Milwaukee, which signals a thriving trade market for him in the offseason.
Bill Simmons, on his eponymous podcast, indicated to Zach Lowe that he's been hearing some rumblings about the Antetokounmpo trade pursuits. It appears as if the two-time MVP won't be going to a West Coast team.
"Trade preferences. I heard this, he doesn't want to be on the west coast. Which rules out my Portland theory that I was excited about," Simmons said.
The discussion about Antetokounmpo's future trade destination has been rumored to center around the distance between the city he's eventually traded to and its distance to Greece. Which rules out many teams on the West Coast that look to acquire his services. Meanwhile, during the podcast episode, Bill Simmons started to name several intriguing East Coast teams that could go after Antetokounmpo, such as the 76ers , the Knicks , the Nets , or the Hornets.
In postgame comments following the Bucks' season finale, Antetokounmpo spoke about the state of the team this season and briefly alluded to whether he will be back next season.
"We were very bad. We are the furthest away that we've been in the last couple of years. How many wins did we have, 32? This is the second-lowest wins I've ever (had), right? The first was 15 (during the 2013-2014 season). So yeah, we're the furthest away that we've been, I think. We'll see. This is what we have in front of us."
He added, "I didn't think we were going to be in this position last year, so I don't know what position we're going to be next year. If everything goes well, hopefully, if the Bucks want me here, why not? But if they don't, okay."
