Bucs place tender on Sean Tucker, back with the team in 2026

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers continue shaping their backfield for the upcoming season, officially tendering running back Sean Tucker and keeping him in the fold behind starter Bucky Irving and newly signed veteran Kenneth Gainwell.

With the move, Tampa Bay now appears to have its primary running back rotation set heading into the offseason. Tucker, who originally joined the Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent out of Syracuse Orange football, has quietly carved out a role as one of the team’s most intriguing depth pieces. Known for his speed and burst, Tucker brings a change-of-pace element that complements the skill sets of both Irving and Gainwell.

During the 2025 season, Tucker made the most of limited opportunities. He finished the year with 320 rushing yards and seven touchdowns while averaging 3.7 yards per carry. Tucker’s biggest strength is his explosiveness. When he gets into space, he has the acceleration to turn routine runs into chunk plays. That ability makes him a valuable rotational option, especially in an offense that increasingly looks to create mismatches and explosive plays.

Tucker helps round out that group by providing depth and a different type of speed element in the backfield. His familiarity with the offense and continued development also make him a logical piece to keep around as the Buccaneers continue building out their roster. With Irving leading the way, Gainwell adding versatility, and Tucker offering explosive depth, Tampa Bay’s running back room now has a clear structure heading into the 2026 season.

While there’s still plenty of offseason left, the Buccaneers appear to have assembled a balanced trio capable of handling both the running and passing responsibilities in the backfield.
