The Buffalo Bills are interviewing Philip Rivers , who has most recently coached a high school team, but they will not look at Bill Belichick .
According to ESPN’s Mike Florio , the Bills are not interested in the former AFC East rival for their coaching vacancy, despite the six Super Bowl titles Belichick has to his name.
“He’s currently regarded as radioactive by most NFL teams looking for coaches,” Florio wrote . “And he has only himself to blame, thanks to the bizarre distractions he created in North Carolina over the past year and his open hostility toward his long-time employer in New England . Any NFL owner who would be inclined to hire Belichick would have to assume that, eventually, some of that same venom will be directed to his next former team.”
Since the Patriots fired Bill Belichick, he has gone through three hiring cycles and had just one interview.
Former New York Jets coach Rex Ryan had suggested shortly after the Bills fired Sean McDermott that Belichick was the obvious choice for the role in Buffalo.
Belichick, however, has been mired in controversy during his year with North Carolina in large part because of his girlfriend Jordon Hudson . Belichick, who is third on the all-time win lists for head coaches, finished his first season in UNC with a 5-7 record.
