As Chicago prepares for the offseason following a 31-51 campaign, Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times highlighted an unusual angle tied to Graham’s background, pointing to a web of connections linked to Duke University.
Cowley shared on X, formerly known as Twitter,
“A deep dive for the conspiracy theorists who don’t trust hiring firms – Billy King works for ZRG Turnkey – Duke guy – Graham really had a strong relationship with Danny Ferry in NOLA – Duke guy – Ferry roommate with Hawks coach Quin Snyder – Duke guy – Graham came from Hawks.”
The post referenced several figures connected through Duke, including Billy King, who was part of the hiring firm involved in the Bulls’ search, and Danny Ferry, a longtime executive with ties to Graham during their time in New Orleans . Ferry’s past connection to Atlanta Hawks coach Quin Snyder further extended the network Cowley outlined.

Bulls pass on Matt Lloyd as Bryson Graham hire sparks league-wide debate
The Bulls’ decision ultimately came down to a competitive pool of candidates that included Matt Lloyd , who was widely viewed as a strong contender for the role. Multiple reports indicated Lloyd impressed during the interview process and had significant momentum before Chicago opted for Graham’s vision to reshape the front office.
While Cowley framed the Duke ties as fodder for “conspiracy theorists,” the broader discussion reflects how interconnected relationships can influence NBA hiring dynamics. Graham’s background, including his time with the Hawks, aligns with a growing trend of organizations prioritizing collaborative leadership and long-term planning.
Chicago’s front office overhaul follows a disappointing season and signals a shift in direction as the franchise looks to reestablish consistency. Graham is expected to oversee roster construction and organizational structure as the team begins its reset.
