For many Penn State fans, the players on the defensive side of the ball they were most excited to see were the linebackers, especially what with the return of star Tony Rojas . Add in the addition of Kooper Ebel , who was entrusted with calling the shots in the middle of the new look defense, and many fans could be forgiven about another linebacker who Matt Campbell utilized in a very unique way in the Week 1 win over Marshall. However, after a breakout performance, Caleb Bacon 's name will certainly be remembered in Happy Valley.
Initially, it was expected that maybe Bacon would not see the field much at linebacker what with the added depth Penn State had at the position. However, a wise move made by Matt Campbell has allowed Caleb Bacon more time on the field, and a much more unique opportunity to impact games.
By moving from LB to defensive end, Caleb Bacon showcased his range and versatility last week against Marshall. He had six total tackles, three for loss and a sack on the day. While both Ebel and Rojas had big days, Bacon was the most impressive of the bunch .
Now going up against another inferior team in Temple , Bacon has another chance to wreak havoc. Temple's starting left tackle will not be playing in this game, which will certainly give the Nittany Lions a strong advantage. Look for DC D'anton Lynn. to continue to use packages specifically designed for Bacon's unique ability to both drop in coverage and blitz the QB.
If Bacon gets looks on the weaker side of Temple's line, it could be a long day for the platoon of QBs Temple likes to run out.
