While the 2025-26 season didn't go the way many a Tar Heel fan may have hoped , one of the bright spots of the campaign was the play of Caleb Wilson , who looked like a future NBA star over the 24 games he was able to appear in for North Carolina.
Taking to social media to thank Tar Heels for a year of support and love, Wilson revealed his intentions for 2026, which will only include returning to Chapel Hill as a fan, not a player .
"What's up Tar Heel Nation? It's Caleb here. This past year has been the most fun year of my life. Although it has been filled with a lot of growth and diversity, I will always cherish this university and the people that make this place what it is. I am grateful for the opportunity I had to represent North Carolina. Wearing number 8, wearing out of that historic turtleneck every day, for practicing games. And I'm happy to say, every day I gave it my all," Wilson said.
"Lastly, I would like to thank my family, coaches, fans, and support systems. Especially my head coach, the godfather of Chapel Hill Hoots, and my academic advisor, who always checked on me in my toughest times. With that being said, I will declare for the 2026 NBA Draft. Go Heels!"
Widely expected to go in the top five to six picks in the 2026 NBA Draft, with The Ringer's Danny Chau comparing their fourth overall prospect to Shawn Kemp meets Gumby, it isn't too surprising to see Wilson put his name in the conversation. Where he lands, however, will be very interesting to see, as it will define the next chapter of his career one way or the other.
